If
you've seen a commercial on TV, you've heard a song from
this record. Because all 18 songs have been licensed to
ad companies to be heard in their spots. Which is a huge
sellout in a way, and a huge bonus for the general public
- all at the same time.
You
see, Play may be a landmark album in that it easily combines
old style stomp blues, gospel, soul, acoustic & electric
guitar, strings, flute, and any other sound you can think
of with hard, funky, non-stop beats and grooves. It's
a blueprint of what electronic music could be like if
it had a little more feeling.
And
if this review can't convince you it's an album that every
human who cares about music should own, go check out CDNow.com
right now and listen to the first 3 songs. You'll be sold.
Play
has spent more time in my CD player than any other CD
in the past couple of years. If we're lucky, other sucker
DJs will try to duplicate it. It's that good, and that
much fun to play.
