Hypnotic,
hip hop-esque, head music. Portishead puts the groove
on, and takes the Love Train from Bristol back to London,
to bust out a new sound that's fresh like old school.
Having a human, funk machine rhythm section that grinds
out sexy mid-tempo beats helps too. Add a dash of dreamy
girl pop vocals, and you've got a mighty fine mix.
Excellent
sampling choices, lush string arrangements, and their
focus on making music for altered states of mind makes
"Dummy" a dead on debut.
