Jello
Biafra with The Melvins
Never Breathe What You Can't See (2004)

What
might have wound up quite the curious collaboration had
the air of an unplanned jam session instead. One of the
elder statesmen of punk meets with a pair that has been
behind some of the heaviest albums this side of Black
Sabbath. A perfect combination for true weirdness –
Jello Biafra's lyrics and the warped metal of King Buzzo
and Dale Crover.
The tunes can never quite match the concept itself, and
the album isn't able to rest on its good intentions for
more than about four songs. Never Breathe What You
Can't See could have made a better EP. A safer bet
would be to keep an eye out for Retroactive Abortion
by Venomous Concept, Buzzo's new project with Shane Embury
and Danny Herrera of Napalm Death and Kevin Sharp. Shane
never disappoints.
