The
Starvations
Get Well Soon (2003)

Mike
McHugh does it again. The Starvations second full-length
reeks of The Distillery, his home studio in Costa
Mesa, CA, where the man has recorded an armload of songs
by Le Shok, The Stitches, Film Star, The Distraction,
and even that boring band Train. Get Well Soon
mixes accordion, piano, and jingling southwesterly guitars
with the blasting, bottom heavy drums McHugh (a drummer
himself) is known for. The key to Mike's sound is also
one of the most obvious virtues of Get Well Soon.
Tracks like "Red Wine", "Not Me This Time",
and "Oh Deputy!" have a presence outside of
the speakers, as if playing this album gives The Starvations
permission to live in your cupboards when they aren't
on tour.
