Riding the Car with Silence:
Stuck in a place that I can no longer stand. Surrounded by people that I never want to see again. I'm taking off in a matter of days for which I extremely excited about. But my excitement is tempered for one fact - the radio in my car is broken and I'm too broke to have it replaced or fixed.
How does a music lover drive 26 hours without music in the car? What will I do on the road, late at night when I'm fight sleep? Unfortunately, I'm about to find out.
Now I can sing but I've come to realize how few lyrics to songs I know when the song is not playing in the background. On any given day, I can rattle off the words to 'Imagination is a Powerful Deceiver' by Elvis Costello when it comes on the jukebox. However, in the confines of a quiet car, I'll be lucky if I can get the chorus right.
Preparing for the first leg of this journey, I packed 320 CD's. Figuring what music to bring took more time than what clothes I packed. Now those 320 CD's will be a constant reminder of a job gone terribly awry and a once healthy bank account that has dwindled down to nothing.
On the road, perhaps I'll create another version of 'Traffic Safety Bingo,' the game we use to play in Fish's Toyota Corona back in high school. Or perhaps I'll punch myself in the leg every time I cruise by a VW Bug.
I'm open for suggestions on passing the time in the car folks. Consider this a cry for help...
