Go Away Little Girl

Alright - I had to throw something up cause we're moving something from here to another section. So as a replacement, I just want to say something about former Vice President, Al Gore.

As much as I dislike the guy, Gore continues to intrigue me more and more. For some reason, I've been reading about the basis for the Supreme Court's decision that put Shrub 43 in office. If you're interested, visit Vince Bugliosi's convincing refutation of it on The Nation website. But the point that blew me away was that the Court basically said this ruling applies only to this case - which is nonsense, because you build case law by every decision rendered. So in effect, the Court said we have no real legal basis for our ruling, but we're picking Bush, you can't stop us, and you can't ever bring another case before us based on this ruling.

The point of that is, Gore would have had a legitimate reason to begin a revolution. While the guy is not a leader, and doesn't have the balls to be one, he would have had reason to stand his ground and fight the ruling. Our Constitution was illegally highjacked, and if that's now worth fighting for, nothing in America is. But he didn't because he wanted the closure of the election for the country. He wanted to go in the history books as the guy who held the nation together. How nice. How wimpy. You generally don't get remembered for quitting, but you definitely do for leading the revoltion, but whatever. If he'd revolted, where was he going to take us anyway? And as much as I would've believed in his cause, I certainly wouldn't have jumped on his rudderless boat.

But that aside, now the guy jumps out of the 2004 election. Which is great - it opens the field for a new Dem to come along and help define what the Democratic Party is going to be about. This was another self-less act. The media wanted Gore-Bush II cause it woulda sold copies/got ratings. But Al opted out. Maybe to make some dough, maybe cause the family wanted him to sit it out, maybe because he knew he would lose, maybe because it was something bigger than him and he respected that.

Al Gore - throughout your primary campaign against Bill Bradley you told audiences, "I wanna fight fer yew". And everytime you said that, I laughed at you cause I knew you didn't mean it. But now that you've adjusted that to 'I wanna let you fight amongst yourselves while I get some rest', I salute you. Thanks for putting the country first. Gracias dude.
