I Feel Good
Alright - it's a new year with a new job and a new attitude, and I think I'm off to a pretty good start.
For one thing, I started today as the publicity director for the Nation (America's oldest weekly magazine). So far, my co-workers seem very nice, the work seems challenging yet do-able, and I have my own office (something I haven't had since 1988). I was a little worried that I was in over my head at first especially since my boss graduated summa cum laude from Princeton, and I graduated who's-a loading the bong-y from Ohio University. But I got a feeling that I was going to fit in and enjoy it. Which is unlike last year when I started a new job on January 2, and it turned out to be one of the worst jobs I've ever had. So I'm crossing my fingers about this one.
I'm also feeling up because I'm committing to write a monthly piece for this website. It's supposed to be about how music relates to the life of a guy in his mid-30s and the people around him. I've been trying to write it for the last few years, but it's always sucked. But now I think I've finally figured out how to go about it. Then again, maybe not.
And lastly - I had a good new years. Being a single guy has kind of made new years a hassle for me because I have to go out in order to have any hope of getting some action (or even a new years kiss). But this year I just decided to spend it at home by myself. So when midnight came along, I was all by my lonesome laughing at the people in Times Square. Then, around 2:15am, I went down to my local bar to meet 2 buddies of mine, talk sports & music, and do some drinking. Some time around 7am, Bartender Joe poured us a final shot on the house and we stumbled on our merry ways home. It is New York City after all, so you're allowed to start and end your celebration when you want.
So here's hoping the rest of 2003 shapes up as well as it's started off. Happy New Year to all y'all - hopefully it'll be a peaceful and prosperous one. And if the Ohio State Buckeyes somehow manage to beat Miami in the national championship game, then I know it's in the cards for this year to be unlike any other I can remember. Bucks 27, Canes 17 - you heard it here first!
