Horse With No Name
So I stumbled across this website called NYC Bloggers and it’s basically a listing by subway stop of all the other people who have blogs in your neighborhood. So, of course, I decided to register mine. But all of the registered blogs have names. And while technically this here weblog is known as “2 Walls Webzine – Mike Webb - blog,” I think we can come up with something a little snappier than that. But I don’t know what.
My first choice was “Nobody Reads Your Blog Either,” but that sounds a little bitter. Then I thought “Webb Log,” but I’m tired of using my name as some sort of internet pun. Right now I’m leaning toward “Nothing Beats A Try” because when I first moved to New York I stayed with my great aunt Lucille who used to say that all the time. I like it because it keeps it in the family, it doesn’t really mean anything by itself, and it’s always good to have the word ‘beat’ (in all of its forms and meanings) in a name.
But there’s another reason I’m leaning toward that phrase as a name. My Aunt Lucille’s actual line was ‘nothing beats a try but a can’t.’ It took me a minute to figure out what the hell she was talking about, but when I did I began to use it on the regular. And I really like the ‘no fear’ of failure connotation in that line. I can’t really claim that I live by the ‘no fear’ credo because I’ve certainly pussied out on things from time to time. But I’ve also been fairly reckless in other aspects of my life, and sometimes unafraid to fail. I also think it will finally give me an angle to write about – like all the times I’ve screwed something up.
So I’m gonna mull it over for the next week and then let the rest of New York City know my Webb Log exists. In the meantime, if you’ve got any ideas, send a note to mwebb@2walls.com. I might even award a special prize to the best suggestion, so lemme know.
