What's Going On
One of the reasons I've laid off the political writing here at 2Walls is because to be really good at it, you really have to have a good understanding of economics. And I don't. While it's not always the answer, if you wanna know why someone is pushing this or that legislation or policy, follow the money and it will tell you what's going on.
So for those of you looking for a better understanding of what's really happening in Iraq, I'd like to recommend the work of Nation columnist Naomi Klein who has a great interview here on Alternet. Naomi has been focused not only on how we've been dead set on changing Iraq from socialism to free market capitalism, but also on the morality of the war and what lefties should be doing to support the Iraqi people. She also gives a great critique on the failures of the Kerry campaign - mainly that he was never T-R-U-E to himself or the American people (somehow political hack Bob Shrum didn't realize that running blue bloods like Kerry & Gore as populist just wasn't going to sit as legit in anyone's book).
So cheggidout.
PS - I'm not playing favorites among Nation writers. I dig 'em all and you should too! But this was timely because of elections in Iraq, so.....
Father, father We don't need to escalate You see, war is not the answer For only love can conquer hate You know we've got to find a way To bring some lovin' here today --Marvin Gaye

Sad Day
Well, I got it exactly wrong again. Sigh. Its tough losing, but I hope people don't give Cowher too much grief. He's a great coach who had an amazing season with a tough D and a rookie QB. Maybe a little more experience and a little more luck and.....
Bummer time....
Oh, what a sad, sad, old day - a sad, old day It was a sad, old day A sad, old day. It was a bad, old day, sad old day a bad old day

Joy And Pain
Got so upset during the 3rd quarter that I had to medicate and talk to the pipe. But the momentum has shifted in a huge way at the moment and it looks like my desperate prayer to God may have helped.
Wow....

Dear God
So coming back from 21 points down with 30 minutes of football left to play does not look promising. But I'm all for putting the game in the rookie's hands at this point and seeing what happens. It's been a miraculous season, and the apparent Jesus freak Big Ben used to wear "PFJ" on his shoes until the NFL made him stop. (PFJ stood for Play For Jesus.)
So I'm going to assume God is a Steeler fan because there's no way in hell he could be rooting for that Republican lovin' asshole Tom Brady. So God, what's it gonna be? David or Goliath?
Dear god, Don’t know if you noticed, But your name is on a lot of quotes in this book. Us crazy humans wrote it, you should take a look, And all the people that you made in your image, Still believing that junk is true. Well I know it ain’t and so do you, Dear god, I can’t believe in, I don’t believe in,
I won’t believe in heaven and hell. No saints, no sinners, No devil as well. No pearly gates, no thorny crown. You’re always letting us humans down. The wars you bring, the babes you drown. Those lost at sea and never found, And it’s the same the whole world ’round. The hurt I see helps to compound, That the father, son and holy ghost, Is just somebody’s unholy hoax, And if you’re up there you’ll perceive, That my heart’s here upon my sleeve. If there’s one thing I don’t believe in...
PS - this post might sound kind of harsh, so I just want to make sure people know I'm not losing my faith or anything like that. However, I will admit to just now taking off my Steelers sweatshirt and replacing it with my Jerome Bettis jersey. "There is superstitious writing on the wall....."

Not Dark Yet
Ok - so this isn't exactly the kind of 1st quarter I had in mind, but we're still in it. We are dominating the clock, but I'd much rather be in the Pats position than winning the battle of the clock.
Defense - stick it out. Duce - rock & roll man. It's all about the Cowher power....
Shadows are falling and I've been here all day It's too hot to sleep time is running away Feel like my soul has turned into steel I've still got the scars that the sun didn't heal There's not even room enough to be anywhere It's not dark yet, but it's getting there

Bye Bye Johnny
Alright - Mike Walls gave me a little grief about the radio silence on the blog space, expecially since my favorite sports team is about to play for the Super Bowl. So here's a little mouthing off before the game starts.
But first, a shout out to Johnny Carson. To put it simply, Carson made me laugh. He was the consumate TV entertainer and the model for my generation's Carson, David Letterman. When I was a kid, it was a big victory against the gods of sleep if you were still awake when Carson came on. So Johnny - I'm sure you'll be welcome at the Pearly Gates.
Now as far as the Steelers go, I believe they're going to win today. Not just out of fandom, but out my football philosophy of running the ball, controlling the clock, and manhandling your opponent. All this talk about Belichick being a master schemer and Cowher not being able to win the big one ignores the fact that coaches don't play on the field. While I'm not negatting their role, all of Cowher's big game playoff teams have been prepared and maybe just one play away from taking the next step. So fuck the past, this is about what happens on the field.
Greg Joseph sent me a note earlier this week that said, "Fuck the Steelers." I replied, "the Steelers should possess the ball about 37 minutes, which gives that Republican swine Tom Brady 23 mins to get his job done against football's best defence. 10-9 Steelers. Big Ben goes 10-19 w/1 int, Bettis 75 yards and 1 TD, Duce 75 yards, Dillon gets 64 yards and a fumble that leads to the Steelers victory. So let it be written, so let it be done." I think I'll stand by that, but add a couple of minutes to the TOP.
See you in 2 weeks Philly!
Bye bye, bye bye. Bye bye, bye bye. Bye bye Johnny, bye bye Johnny B. Goode.
